The Opportunity
The Elevate STEM Academy will be an intensive STEM based development and academic support program with the aim of preparing youth in grades 6-8 to engage in STEM pathways. Programming will be implemented in partnership with school boards and youth serving organizations and will include:
- 1:1 and group tutoring sessions
- STEM skill building workshops
- STEM career exploration sessions
As a STEM Academy Site Lead, you will be responsible for leading program delivery at a school site, supervising a team of facilitators, and ensuring that programming is innovative, high-quality, and inclusive. You will balance direct facilitation with leadership responsibilities, fostering strong relationships with youth, families, school staff, and community partners.
We are looking for individuals who are confident working with low-income and racialized communities and bring strong leadership and facilitation skills. The ideal candidate is passionate about improving the lives of youth, skilled at supervising and mentoring a team, and adaptable to the evolving needs of program delivery. Site Leads are accountable for the smooth operation of their site, the quality of programming, and the academic and social-emotional growth of participants.

Contract Type/Term: Part-time, Fixed-Term

Schedule & Hours: Up to 20 hours per week
- Program Sessions: Weekly on Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1:30 PM – 5:30 PM
- Additional hours for preparation, meetings, training, bin packing/unpacking dates, and site responsibilities

Reports To: Program Coordinator
Major Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
Program Leadership & Delivery
- Lead the delivery of STEM Academy sessions, including tutoring, skill-building workshops, and career exploration activities
- Supervise, mentor, and support Program Facilitators to ensure high-quality delivery
- Plan and implement lesson activities based on curriculum in collaboration with the program team
- Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment that promotes academic, social-emotional, and leadership growth
- Coordinate guest speakers, field trips, and enrichment opportunities
Participant Engagement & Support
- Build strong and supportive relationships with youth participants
- Provide mentorship that fosters teamwork, leadership, and responsible decision-making
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to share updates, reminders, and opportunities to engage in the program
- Supervise participants during all program activities, ensuring safety and well-being
Administration & Program Evaluation
- Maintain accurate records (attendance, feedback, surveys) and upload to online databases in a timely manner
- Administer participant surveys, focus groups, and evaluation tools to assess program impact
- Conduct participant and team debriefs to evaluate progress and inform program adjustments
- Contribute to program reports by capturing highlights, challenges, and outcomes
Team & Organizational Responsibilities
- Liaise with school staff, partners, and program coordinators to ensure site success
- Lead or contribute to training, development, and recognition activities for team members
- Track and reconcile program-related expenses, budgets, and staff hours as required
- Oversee inventory management, including packing, restocking, site set-up, and tear-down
- Represent Visions of Science positively in all interactions with schools, partners, and families
What We’re Looking For
Education & Training
- Interest in, current study of, or completion of a field related to STEM, education, child and youth care, or social work is preferred
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience with Visions of Science or 2+ years of leadership in community-based youth programs
- Proven facilitation experience, ideally in tutoring, academic support, or STEM programming
- Experience supervising or mentoring staff, volunteers, or youth leaders
- Familiarity with program evaluation tools and outcome tracking
- Strong interpersonal, behavioral management, and conflict resolution skills
Key Competencies & Skills
- Strong leadership and supervisory abilities, with experience guiding a team of facilitators
- Excellent facilitation skills to deliver tutoring, workshops, and STEM-based enrichment activities
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills to balance delivery, reporting, and site coordination
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; able to liaise with youth, families, educators, and partners
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Drive for program tracking and reporting
- Ability to create inclusive and supportive learning spaces that foster academic success, SEL, and leadership development
- Accountability, adaptability, and problem-solving skills in dynamic program environments
Additional Asset(s)
- Lived experience in low-income and racialized communities
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Valid G license and access to a vehicle
- Experience in the non-profit sector and knowledge of systemic issues impacting youth and communities

Compensation
$24.12 per hour
