The Opportunity
The Elevate STEM Academy will be an intensive STEM based development and academic support program with the aim of preparing youth in grades 6-8 to engage in STEM pathways. Programming will be implemented in partnership with school boards and youth serving organizations and will include:
- 1:1 and group tutoring sessions
- STEM skill building workshops
- STEM career exploration sessions
As a Program Facilitator, you will work directly with participants to deliver engaging STEM programming and academic support. You will assist with lesson preparation, lead small-group and one-on-one learning activities, and help create safe, inclusive spaces that promote academic success, social-emotional learning, and leadership development.
We are looking for individuals who are confident working with low-income and racialized communities, and who bring enthusiasm, energy, and strong facilitation skills. The ideal candidate is adaptable to diverse learning needs, passionate about supporting youth, and eager to contribute to their academic and personal growth.
Position Details
Contract Type/Term: Part-time, Fixed-Term
Positions Available: 5
Schedule & Hours: Up to 10 hours per week
Program Sessions: Weekly on Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1:30 PM – 5:30 PM
- Additional hours for preparation, meetings, training, and bin packing/unpacking dates.

Major Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
Program Delivery & Facilitation
- Facilitate one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions, STEM skill-building workshops, and career exploration activities using lesson plans and materials provided
- Deliver STEM Academy sessions in alignment with program goals and timelines
- Assist with session preparation, set-up, and clean-up to ensure an engaging, inclusive, and safe learning environment
- Support Site Leads and Program Coordinators in coordinating guest speaker sessions, enrichment opportunities, and field trips
Participant Engagement & Support
- Build rapport and maintain positive relationships with youth participants
- Encourage active participation and support social-emotional growth throughout all activities
- Provide mentorship to participants by modeling teamwork, leadership, and responsible decision-making
- Supervise participants to ensure their safety and well-being at all times
- Communicate positively with parents/guardians when required, sharing updates and reinforcing program goals
Program Administration & Evaluation
- Assist with attendance tracking, survey distribution, and completion of evaluation tools
- Share participant observations and session highlights with Site Leads and Program Coordinators
- Contribute to program evaluations by collecting and transcribing participant feedback and survey data
Team & Organizational Support
- Participate in program debrief sessions, reflection meetings, and training with the program team
- Support bin packing and unpacking to prepare and organize program materials
- Support site set-up and tear-down to ensure smooth and safe program delivery
- Collaborate with fellow facilitators, Site Leads, and staff to ensure effective coordination at the site
- Represent Visions of Science positively and professionally in interactions with participants, families, schools, and community partners
What We’re Looking For
Education & Training
- Interest in, current study of, or completion of a field related to STEM, education, child and youth care, or social work is preferred
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience facilitating or assisting with youth programs, tutoring, or workshops
- Experience working with children and youth from low-income and/or racialized communities
- Familiarity with STEM subjects, careers, or activities through school, volunteering, or work experience
- Proven ability to build inclusive and engaging learning environments for youth
- Strong group management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster participation and resolve conflicts constructively
Key Competencies & Skills
- Confident facilitation and youth engagement skills; able to lead tutoring and hands-on STEM activities
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with youth, families, and educators
- Dependability, accountability, and consistency in program delivery and completion of tasks
- Adaptability and flexibility to respond to the diverse learning needs of participants and changing program schedules
- Commitment to fostering inclusive, welcoming, and empowering spaces for children and youth from equity-deserving communities
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Drive (training available if needed)
Additional Asset(s)
- Lived experience in low-income and racialized communities
- Valid G license and access to a vehicle
- Experience in the non-profit sector and/or knowledge of systemic issues impacting our communities
